Improve Access To Education

A Keystone To Fight Poverty

Ungweru believes that providing education support to orphans and the vulnerable groups at all levels of education is one of the keys to fight poverty. However resources are a big limiting factor. We work towards mobilizing resources and introducing the needy students to other institutions offering scholarships.

Early Age Education

Ungweru facilitated the establishment of seven CBCCC (Community Based Child Care Centers) in the communities. These institutions aim at improving the welfare of orphans and vulnerable children and implement mechanisms for care of orphans mainly at family and community level.
Training for caregivers and management committees are performed to improve the quality of education and enhance committee support.
Ungweru has so far supported construction of two structures for CBCCC activities and we provided school supplies to enrich the children’s experiences.

ACCORDING TO NATIONAL STATISTICAL OFFICE (2008), THE TOTAL ENROLMENT IN PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL WAS 39,8%

High Level Education

We also provide small-scale scholarships to vulnerable highschool students and soft loans for postsecondary school students in local communities. By offering these services, we hope to encourage students to pursue higher levels of education.

FIELD IMPLEMENTATION

Learning foundation
Thukutu CBCCs provide children from ages 2 to 5 with a foundation for learning before primary school. They are exposed to subjects such as language and mathematics. Our goal is to support these Childcare Centre as it is a vital step in providing proper education to the children in our communities.
Transferring knowledge
We partner with the Kwithu Community Base Organization to facilitate improvements in the English and mathematics curriculum at primary schools. We began by working with one school in the Luwinga ward and monitor their progress. The goal is to have this school transferring the knowledge gained to other schools
