One of the challenges faced by less privileged communities in Malawi is lack of food to last them to the next harvesting season. This leaves communities to be food and nutrition insecure.

The major contributory factor for this challenge in most communities in Malawi is the high cost of farm inputs which most households cannot afford to buy. Mzamu community in Traditional Authority M’mbelwa in Mzimba district is not exceptional to this challenge.

Community members in Mzamu area can now sing a new song following the receipt of farm inputs which included fertilizer, maize seed and soya beans with support from Trocaire Organization and Ungweru Trustees.

A total of 120 farming families have benefited from this initiative and the total project investment is US$6,800.00. If the current crop stand is to go by, the area is expected to have a bumper yield for the first time for the past 5 years.
